The real issue here and something that seems to be lost in the mix is when exactly was it that GOVERNMENT got in the business of certifying marriage, and by what authority does a government define marriage. It is and should be between the individuals. That marriage in this country has been converted to what basically amounts to a "legal contract" that can only be rectified by lawyers and judges explains why so many fail in the first place. Those pieces of paper regardless of how much one pays for them do not make two people married, where marriage is the emotional and spiritual union of individuals. It, like so many other social issues has become so convoluted over the years that the discussion itself becomes a joke.
