Jonah Goldberg wrote: "...I agree with much of the substance of Paul's critics..." Because he has proven, with piece after piece, to be a shill for the big-government GOP establishment.

That's not true.....I have read Goldberg for years, and he is a rock solid conservative. The truth is that Rand Paul in a libertarian.....we can agree with much of his ideology, but his views regarding war are more in line with code pink.

The word 'conservative' means so many diverse things that it is uselessly vague. Goldberg IS rock solid on his support of the GOP establishment. His attempt to damn Paul with faint praise in this piece is an attempt to avoid the backlash others have already gotten (start with McCain and Graham) from confronting Paul directly. Note also that he doesn't cite the supposed "substance" of the criticisms he supports, that would be risky.

What Goldberg CONSISTENTLY does is show himself to be a rock-solid supporter of the big-government GOP establishment.

Last week, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) held an old-fashioned filibuster against the nomination of John Brennan to head the CIA. Paul's stated reason for taking to the floor and talking for 13 hours was that the Obama administration wouldn't give him a straight answer on the question of whether the president can unilaterally order the killing of American citizens on American soil with "lethal force, such as a drone strike ... and without trial."

In other words, if an American member of al-Qaeda is sitting at a Starbucks, can the president sic one of his death-dealing robots on him?
