Mr. Schlicter's error is not in what he says as much as it is what he DOESN'T say. The GOP is full of people who get all the photo ops they can to pump up their Bible/gun/truck/country street cred. But they vote for big-government at every turn and will sell out the Constitution for ethanol mandates and corn subsidies. These people are supposedly the ones who are supposed to be protecting the Constitution. We all know self-avowed socialists are going to do it, it's the big-government crooks in small-government clothing we need to smite.

Worse, the political left is full of snobby socialists. It's not exactly news. And it's not like anyone is going to reform them. What needs attention is the mess on the RIGHT side of the political aisle, not the left. Crooks will always exist. In a world full of crooks and dirty cops, it's the dirty cops you have to replace.

Dan, you seem to miss the point. Mr. Schlichter does NOT devote the time and focus on the GOP establishment. If yu believe he does, you are as blind to reality as those who say the media are not slanted to the political left.

Further, the article is,, at its core, focused on the snobbery. And Mr. Schlichter has gotten wrapped around the axle on that. He talks about the snobbery of those who sneer at guns, trucks, religion, country music...but the GOP's big-government crooks mostly pass the guns/trucks/religion/country music LIPSERVICE test with flying colors. They SAY they're one thing but they vote for big-government control over the individual and his property. In court, you know the OTHER guy's lawyer will be against you. What'd dangerous is when your own lawyer is secretly against you. That's what's happening, and that's what Mr. Schlichter not only misses, but winds up further hiding. Even if he means well.

The big-government wolves on the left are at least readily exposed. The problem is the supposed opposition to them is a bunch of big-government wolves in sheep's clothing. The fix will NEVER come from reforming the avowed socialists of the left. The fix can ONLY come by replacing the big-government statists on the right (who preach small government but deliver the opposite) with REAL small-government advocates.

Earl, you are simply wrong about this. He slices off the David Frums as if THAT is the problem with the GOP. The problem is MUCH bigger and is nearly the entire party. The small-government Constitutionalists currently in office can be counted on two or three hands. Further, the article rants "liberal this, liberal that, liberal this, liberal that" with only the one MISLEADING sentence you cite. The article does precisely what I wrote: it FALSELY exonerates the GOP big-government statists. Which is nearly all of them.
