Let's Talk About Sex, Responsibly

Never got anyone pregnant; never passed on disease; but now recognize my promiscuity was less than respectful, and much less than what those young women deserved from me. In the final analysis it didn’t matter that they chose to participate. What mattered was that as an equal party in the relationship, I selfishly elected to place my own immediate gratification above what was in their longer term emotional and physical welfare. In retrospect, I owed them (…and myself) much more. Reflection on my past behavior makes me wonder about what’s the most basic and highest purpose of being a young man. IMHO, there’s only one over-arching purpose – and that‘s to become the best father possible.

As a male, I can only ASSUME what females think and feel about premarital sex, childbirth, and abortion based upon what I’ve observed. As a male, raised by a single mom with three much younger sisters, I found my opinions about what was respectable behavior towards young women was very much different from my male peers. Yet even coming from a far more “female oriented” upbringing than other young males, I’m ashamed to recollect a few instances in what I’d now consider to be my breakdown in responsible behavior towards several of the wonderful young females that I was fortunate to have encountered.
Perhaps Michael would be more comfortable posting his thoughts over at the Huffington Post. Instead of suggesting that Republicans start by positioning themselves to make compromises, perhaps the Democrats could begin the process by making a quantitative proposal. They won the election, hold blocking power in the Senate, and own the executive and judicial branches. What will they lose if the Republicans don't agree? They have several options: they can go the executive order route, declare a national emergency, etc. It's obvious that they can control the negotiation process; let the tax cuts expire; pocket the additional revenue; and blame the Republicans for the program cuts by failing to negotiate. The media will report it their way.
