The vast potential lantent in the minds of America's youth is being squandered by liberal policy (implemented by D's and R's). Several viable solutions are linked above. To get there will require that the few of us willing, as were our forefathers, to pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor to liberty for all, do so without reservation. We must defeat those who do otherwise then root out the ideology that they promote. When some among us swerve due to pressure or promise of personal gain, we must not be discouraged. We lose only if we quit.

Echo Rush Limbaught or some perceived conservative talking point? In that statement you demonstrate a complete lack of understanding with regard to conservative thought, or perhaps more accurately, classical liberalism. In short, if it promotes life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, let's do it. Anne lost me as a never-miss-a-column loyal reader when she, in my opinion, demonstrated a lack of resolve in standing for principals demonstrably conservative. I'm under no illusions that my decision matters to her one whit.
Dr. Rice is brilliant and so talented in many areas. Having expressed deserved praise for her, if chosen by Romney as his VP running mate, I will be voting for Gary Johnson.
The sky is blue! Water is wet! GBW was an economic disaster! OBAMA MADE IT WORSE. He says, "we did not realize how bad it was." He does not have the skill required to accurately define the problem. He says, "the republicans are standing in my way." He does not have the skill to lead. He says, "we just need more time." He knew the term is 4 years and SHOULD HAVE PLANNED ACCORDINGLY. I suspect that he thought the economy would rebound on its own and he would be in place to take credit. He says that free market capitalism does not work - NEWS FLASH: There has not been a functioning free market in the USA for almost a century.

You are describing consumption not production. You will receive no argument from me that government is unparalleled in its ability to consume. Prosperity, on the other hand, occurs when an individual adds value to material or service. Sam Walton figured out a way to provide improved access to a greater number of goods; consumers responded by choosing Walmart over alternatives. Reducing that consumer's ability to purchase by diminishing his wealth helps neither him, Walmart, nor the government in the long-term, because the big government cycle is unsustainable. While government performs some necessary and vital services, mostly it is parasitic and destructive in its current state. Envy is a powerful motivator.

The one admirable trait of democrats is that they never quit. They contest the smallest of matters searching for a foothold; when none exists, they fabricate one (e.g., free contraceptives). That is why they must be beaten, then beaten again, and again. Their children must be educated in principles of liberty, the Constitution, free-market economics, personal responsibility, the difference between charity and thievery in spite of them. I reside in VA-7. I've promised my congressman that because his actions consistently fall short of what is needed, he will not receive my vote in the next election.
Taxing income stifles productivity. Taxing income progressively empowers the tax collectors. The Fair Tax is truly voluntary taxation - collected at the point of consumption (trade). While the proposal is for implementation at a rate yielding receipts equivalent to those of the current system, I believe that a 20% rate for ALL taxes (federal, state, and local) would be the optimum rate for growth while funding necessary government functions.
Thoughtful column David, thank you. It is impossible to reason with a liberal. Reason requires the presence of a standard or set of principles that are fixed and unwavering, believed to be, by those holding the view, of greater import than oneself. Liberals place in that position their own thoughts, beliefs, desires and emotions thus establishing a circular argument. Their positions are constantly shifting with arguments tailored for the moment. They seek to change the language, confuse the ignorrant, and destroy anyone who opposes their actions. Liberalism is a mental disease.
