I used a gun to defend myself when my front door was kicked in at 4:30am. Luckily for the would be intruders the sound of me racking a round was enough to send them running and they didn't enter the door or I would have shot them. I also used my gun to persuade a large elk to stop walking up the trail towards me on the lost coast of California. When he walked up within 25 ft of me eating along the trail with his big rack I thought it best to fire a round safely into the ground with the hope the sound would run him off. It was successful as he ran up the hill and shook his head. As our society becomes more immoral and the respect for life decreases, we citizens desperately need our guns to defend ourselves from two and four legged animals.

We all know that guns can cost lives because the media repeat this message endlessly, as if we could not figure it out for ourselves. But even someone who reads newspapers regularly and watches numerous television newscasts may never learn that guns also save lives-- much less see any hard facts comparing how many lives are lost and how many are saved.

But that trade-off is the real issue, not the Second Amendment or the National Rifle Association, which so many in the media obsess about. If guns cost more lives than they save, we can always repeal the Second...
