Thousands of years? Islam has only been around for about 1400 years. And the "spread" of Islam to Spain and Turkey was AT THE POINT OF A SWORD! How was that peaceful? They were made into world powers through subjugation and tyranny, not negotiation and trade. Not to mention the only ones who prospered at that time were the rich Muslim conquerors. At least until they were driven out. Then Christians were allowed to prosper again rather than having to pay taxes to keep their heads on their shoulders. As for prosperity in the middle east today, much of that is because they just happen to sit on top of a lot of oil. Otherwise, the most prosperous country in the middle east NOT dependent upon oil is Israel, which MOST imams across the middle east have called to be destroyed. And why have all the "moderate Muslims" in Europe and America been so unwilling to publicly denounce their extremist brethren? If bands of Christians were raping, pillaging, and lopping off heads like cabbages, you can bet the Pope and the Archbishop of the Anglican Church would be the first to speak out against it. Remind me again how a "religion of peace" can tolerate a growing minority of its people living their lives by the sword today as they did a thousand years ago?

Considering booze and cigs aren't covered by EBT, that's not a problem.

*sigh* You chemophobes are so misinformed. Take a couple courses in chemistry and biochemistry before you take off on rants about what chemicals are in this and that. Yes, HFCS can turn into fat, but it doesn't if you're exercising enough to burn the calories. Yes, diet sodas contain chemicals like propylene glycol, an organic molecule that is used in foods, plastics, and petrochemicals alike. But did you ever think to ask yourself WHY? Its because of its extremely low freezing point, nothing more. And in the amounts humans consume, its quite safe. The dangerous one is its cousin ETHYLENE glycol. Breakfast cereal is cardboard? Maybe you should stop eating from the bowl pictured on the box then, because I've been to a few cereal plants, and its a remarkably simple process. In fact, you could make several of the big brand cereals in your own kitchen if you had the time. And who are you to say that "most packaged foods should be banned"? You obviously lack the education to know that propylene glycol is harmless unless you were to drink it right out of a 55 gallon drum. And you don't know much about corn flakes. So what makes you qualified to ban other foods? Or is this all based on what you "heard on the internet" or read about "in someone's blog article"? Yeah.... we know how accurate THOSE are.
What does his being black have to do with anything? I'm sure there's plenty of conservative black politicians who would do a far better job, and their race would have no bearing on it.
Where's the "Who cares?!" button? Its what he did ON the job that's important, not the aftermath.

"Hollywood moralists -- Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian"??? BWAHAHAHAA!! Funniest thing I've read in months! The day I take moral cues from Lindsay Lohan is the day they put me in the jacket that makes me hug myself.

I don't hold movie studios responsible in any of this because its the PARENT'S job to teach their children the difference between reality and fantasy, right and wrong, and between dramatic themes. My father's first words to me about television were: "anything that happens behind that glass is make-believe unless I tell you otherwise". He then taught me how even the news is not always the full and honest truth, that even nature shows on PBS can be slanted, and so on. And ever since then, I can watch the most depraved, sadistic, and horrifying movie scenes knowing full well that its only a movie, not a reflection on reality. And I've learned to take a lot of meaning from the themes conveyed in movies without making those themes part of me
