So if they ban sugary sodas and people start drinking diet sodas more, do they not realize that the aspartame found in most diet sodas is equivalent to rat poison and much more harmful than sugar?

Aspartame has no calories, whether your body "sees" a difference or not. What some are contending is that the body actually compensates in some way, "hoarding" energy instead of expending it at the normal rate, which makes actually losing weight harder.
