I took a look at the CDC report. I think Mr. Fumento is wrong, which is a good example of why I don't take my medical advice from political pundits.

Flu season usually peaks in the 6th or 7th week of the year. This report is based on week 1 data. There is a lag between getting samples, doing analysis, and publishing the report. The H1N1 epidemic does not fit with the normal annual curve of flu. It tailed of at the end of the year because kids 4-24(the most susceptible to H1N1) were home from school for x-mas break. I think we'll see in remerge as the dominant flu by the end of February and with a vengence.
