To Jay Wye and realitycheck2012: some good posts, and you're on the right track. The people arguing in favor of civil marriage rights for homosexual couples need to be shamed. The people arguing that homosexuality (a behavioral disorder) is equivalent to race (a physical trait), for the purpose of equal rights under the U.S. Constitution, need to be shamed. The people arguing that homosexual relationships, which can *only* be consummated through oral or anal sex acts, are healthy and ennobling relationships, which should be endorsed and promoted by society and government, need to be shamed.

Homosexuality is about attractions, not behavior. One does not have to be engaging in sex to be homosexual. If that were true, I know a lot of straight people who should no longer be considered heterosexual. And NO mainstream medical or psychological organization considers it a disorder any more than they consider left-handedness to be a disorder.

Nbody has claimed that sexual orientation is "equivalent" to race -- only that this is a civil rights issue, just like racial equality. It is hard NOT to draw parallels between the struggles for racial equlity, for women's rights and now gay rights. The discriminatinon is the same, and that's why Julian Bond, the late Coretta Scott King and the NAACP itself have supported gay causes.

With almost all polls closed, it looks like same-sex marriage bills in Maryland, Maine and Washington have all passed to allow same-sex marriage. In most of these states this was an easy win. In Minnesota, the vote was a vote to ban same-sex marriage. It looks like most likely the ban will not pass, but it is still very close.

This is a huge victory for marriage-equality groups and many people have taken to twitter to show their support. After Politico announce the win in Maryland, many celebrities and marriage equality supporters showed their approval.
