Gay "marriage"

Our deacon at church is a lesbian. She lives with a university professor and together they have been raising two children for over 17 years. In that sense of responsibility and commitment through good times and bad times, they are already "married" even though the government does not recognize them as such. I remember what my economics teacher said that ; considering the overwhelming divorce rate in the US, children being born out of wedlock and so on, she could not understand why homosexuals would want to take any part in an institution that has overall been an absolute failure.
