The US government's refusal to allow the release of the details of any communications between the US and Scotland before Mr. Megrahi leads me to believe one of three things happened: 1) The US leaders including President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton didn’t have any significant conversations with Scotland prior to Mr. Megrahi’s release in which case one must question their international awareness and their ability to build foreign partnerships, or 2) US leaders supported his release which would show a real disrespect for the families of the victims and for justice, or 3) They were unpersuasive in convincing Scotland not to release Mr. Megrahi which would make me question how foreign nations view our new leaders. To put it simply it would appear that the British have negotiated the release of a terrorist. This goes against both the interest of justice and the principles that America believes in. While the Scottish/British error in judgment is clear, one must wonder what role the US had in this affair given that the Obama administration has blocked the release of communication between US and Scottish authorities. These communications need to be released to provide whatever remaining justice may be given to the families of the victims.
