The massive increase in Social Security Disability applications means that even the legitimately disabled must wait an average two years or more to have their applications approved. Another interesting factor is the impact of child support obligations. A successful Social Security Disability application results in a retroactive award of past-due benefits (an attorney representing someone in a successful case is entitled to a percentage of that award). If the applicant owes back child support, the support collection office will request a court order to place a lien on the award, to be applied to unpaid child support. Since some of that support is owed to the state to reimburse welfare, the state gets repaid (a fraction) also!

My neighbors are a perfect example. One decided that he'd rather do drugs than construction, screwed up his health and got on disability. His daughter at 20 couple, did drugs, got real fat and got on disability.

Next to me, this idiots two sons disabilities are being stupid and really fat. They draw it.

25 years in the Army as a special ops guy. Friends of mine that are also retired tell me I should get evaluated for PTSD and get disability. Hmmmm, my excuse is that I may always have been a little nuts, its not necessarily the Armys fault.

Americans are very generous to people with disabilities. Since passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990, millions of public and private dollars have been spent on curb cuts, bus lifts and special elevators.

The idea has been to enable people with disabilities to live and work with the same ease as others, as they make their way forward in life. I feel sure the large majority of Americans are pleased that we are doing this.
