Cello Notes

Dear Ms. Charen - I took up the cello 8 years ago at 51 and am going strong. I helped form a string ensemble for mixed level players and play in a string quartet. You are right, progress is slow and comes in fits and starts but if you persevere, you will improve. I recommend that you play as much as possible with others as that is how I made the big leaps in understanding. It is also immensely more enjoyable than playing alone. Two caveats - you will probably never play well at really fast tempos (ageing brain?) and the development of a beautiful, fluid tone is MUCH harder than one would like. That said, it is the most wonderful instrument.
