Every Thursday morning I go on the Jon Justice show in Southern Arizona. Today, I made a comment about the glorification of food stamps and apparently that sparked a deluge of calls like the one below in which the caller argues welfare stimulates the economy.
Considering Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks the same way, I'm not surprised.
"It's the biggest bang for the buck."

You seem to be saying that Democrats claim food stamps are 'economic stimulus,' which means that Democrats claim that the stimulus to the economy would be a sufficient reason alone to enact food stamp programs--and I don't think many Democrats would take the logic that far. I think most would say that food stamp programs are justified by the need, especially poverty and hunger rates amongst children and the elderly, and the fact that it manifests in capital that is disposed of immediately at the retail level is an added benefit--because it stimulates the economy. But not many would argue that the sole, or even primary, purpose is stimulus.
