Ken -- Fine, then gov't should not give any additional benefits to married people of any orientation -- no death benefits, no power of attorney, none of the 1138 federal benefits and privileges of being married. Unless those are repealed, then there is no force, only equality.

"society" is simply a collection of individuals, and therefore cannot be harmed. A society has no rights only individuals do. And the right to be treated equally under the law is one of those rights. To say that only a heterosexual couple can receive the legal benefits of marriage but not a homosexual couple would seem to clearly violate that right.

Progressives are more honest than Republicans. Republicans pay lip service to limited gov't and personal and economic freedoms but once they're away from the spotlight they waste no time in turning around and shoving a knife in the backs of those who voted for them. Progressives run on increasing gov't and then do just that when they get to Washington.
