Many durable goods are built in the US -- windows for houses, earth movers and other large construction equipment, airplanes etc... non-durable goods like clothing and many electronics are too expensive to build here, so they're built elsewhere.

Gun control advocates ignore that criminals, by their very nature, don't care about laws. It's why Prohibition didn't work, why the "War on Drugs" hasn't worked, and why stricter gun control won't work.
