I would say it's more about bad parenting than gubmint, but the gubmint certainly doesn't help anything.
The main problem with today's Democrat is that they like to bark out orders about things they HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT! One size does not fit all in a school cafeteria. If a child is healthy and is not overweight, why would you want to starve them of calories at lunch time? If a child is athletic and plays sports and/or lifts weights, that child may require 1000 - 1500 calories at lunch. Most of which should be protein obtained from lean meat. A 300 calorie veggie lunch is not going to cut it for those children! Obese and morbidly obese children are the ones who should be eating less for lunch, but at the PARENTS' DISCRETION! If those kids go home and slam down a 2lb bag of M&Ms after school, lighting their lunches does absolutely nothing.
