Labor Unions Kill the Twinkie and 18,000 Jobs

Oh the twinkie will be back. Right after they go bankrupt get rid of the workers and "reemerge from bankruptcy" after shedding all the pension obligations (ala mitt romney) and rehiring minimum wage workers. These people were being forced to take an 8% pay cut and a 30% cut in benefits. Maybe everyone else here can afford that. these people can't. Why is it that when a corporation goes bankrupt it's just fine but if an individual goes bankrupt they're the scum of the earth?

They were already in bankruptcy, they are now going out of business.

What is going to happen is a new company is going to buy the assets and restart in a right to work state. When a new company buys the assets of a business, the liabilities go away. That's how a liquidation works. They can buy the factories, the equipment, the copyrights, patents and trademarks, but that does not mean they have to be saddled with the liabilities of the previous owners.

Hostess has bakeries (and outlet stores)all around the US. There's one bakery here in Orlando.
Florida is a right-to-work state,IIRC.

More likely Hostess will re-emerge but all the production will now be offshore.

Thank you John for demonstrating the ignorance of people like yourself when it comes to running a business. When they run into problems it's ALWAYS because "the owners are paying themselves too much." It's NEVER because costs are going up too far and too fast for the company to handle, is it moron?
IF any of the Hostess brand products ever come back it will be by a different company which purchased the brand name, NOT because Hostess was able to do as you say.

You libtards seem to think that all businesses have unlimited funds and can weather any storm because you're WILLFULLY IGNORANT about simple business economics. It doesn't work that way.

You are not that swift. The unions can't expect unrealistic raises. Things change and the company was trying to survive.

No one "forces" anyone to do anything. the employees are not forced to work for Hostess. The union could not see beyond its greed and the employees will suffer the consequences.Chinese Twinkies thanks to union stuborness.

Apparently corporations going bankrupt ISN'T fine under Obama. Where was he to bail out the Twinkie like GM?

Madame Obama would have had his hide if he had saved a lousy food like Twinkies.

Elections have consequences. Your going to see a lot of them and you aren't going to be able to blame everything on the evil rich.

Labor Unions have officially killed off the Twinkie. The company that makes the yummy treat announced today they will start to downsize operations (a.k.a. fire people) as a result of a long battle with union workers.

Hostess Brands Inc., the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, said it had sought court permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers.

Hostess said a national strike by members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union that began last...
