So basically you like controlling what other people eat? So much for conservatism. . .

No one except Michelle Obama wants to control what other people eat but 'food' stamps are for 'food'...we, the taxpayers are paying for them...I've seen food stamps used for carts filled with chips and candy and soda...etc...that is an abuse of the system.

It would be more cost-effective to simply issue a weighed-out ration of rice, cabbage, powdered milk, and dry beans -- the sort of minimal rations used to keep disaster victims alive.

When the public is funding it, yes. Candy, Soda Pop, Chips, Twinkes, etc should not be on the food stamp eligible list. I would even eliminate beef, but not chicken or turkey. The government is telling us items on my banned list are not good for us, so why do we allow them as food stamp eligible products?

John,

When you are letting the government in the door, your say in the matter disappears.
