Hope Amid the Chaos in Cairo

Why do people consider the "Brotherhood" as radical? If one reads the Quoran , one would understand they are the voice of Muslim theology and it is the current regime in Egypt, Turkey and Jordan that are in fact the radicals since they are more or less secular. It appears that Obama's propaganda, following the progressive line, has been taken as the correct view of Islam.

Should We Ban Walking While Wired?

There should be no ban. As Darwin wrote, it is a matter of survival of the fittest. Those stupid enough to cross a street without paying attention deserve to be removed from the gene pool.

Obama's New 'Gay' Force

My only concern is that openly gay personnel (male) will not be given the opportunity to be cannon fodder like straight males. If they are only given choice assignments to non combat or combat svc spt units, then they will enjoy the benefits of being in the military with out the dangers. The argument about housing is fallacious. In the 70s Manheim Germany had co-ed barracks. There were no more reported cases of sexual harassment there than in any other part of the US Army in Germany. I've served with suspected gays, they were no more sexually aggressive than any other GI and were damned proud to be in the Military. I''m a retired MSG. I think anyone who wants to serve and die for their country deserves the right to do so. I have...
So what's the big deal? I worked for GSA for 17 years about half of those years were spent working for a non budgeted agency (usually for 3 or four months) as Congress failed to pass a budget. The Government continues to operate on continuing resolutions. By the way, as Obama claims he was left a huge deficit by Bush remember, Congress proposes the budget, not the President and the Democrats controlled Congress for the last 4 years of the Bush Presidency.
Why Brian listed the NY Times as a prestige media source I shall never understand. The only thing in that paper of any value was the crossword puzzle, which I enjoyed doing while growing up in a much less liberal NY. As I told a phone solicitor the paper has no value to me since I now live in Alabama. As she tried to point out the great newsworthiness of the paper to me, even in a cultural hinterland, I finally told her the paper wasn't even good enough to line a bird cage or housebreak a puppy. Her response was to tell me to fornicate myself since I had to be a southern bigot and klansman. Obviously, since she worked for the Times, she didn't say fornicate. A little to complicated and more polite term than she was used to.

I'm over 65 and a Roman Catholic. When and if I get summoned to a "Die gracefully, with our help and don't be a burden on family or society" I will advise the little illegitimate Government Employee that as a Catholic I won't commit suicide but I will cheerfully "blow his head off" and let the state put me down. That way I don't commit a sin and at the same time save the Government the cost of his healthcare
