We must return to the core idea that government's primary function is protection and punishment, not provision.

We must return to the core idea that government's (federal, state and local) primary function is protection (for The People to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) and punishment (for those who would deprive The People from these pursuits), not provision (by the government to provide what it recognizes as the ideal life, liberty and happiness for The People).

Please notice the capitalization employed in this comment.

Government’s Job Description: Protection and Punishment, Not Provision. Without a return to this fundamental truth I am not sure if America can remain the “Land of the free.” We see an increase in government-engineered dependence with each passing generation. It is time for “We the people” to remind ourselves and declare—Government protects and we provide.
