And $1,000 in 1972 would be over $5,000 today, adjusted for inflation -- and adjusted for per capita GDP it would be $10,000 to $12,000. Personally, I favor a "demogrant" of about half that amount, plus a 25% flat tax or consumption (sales) tax.
