In reference to Vietnam, General Giap stated in his diaries that he was amazed the US pulled out. He said that the Tet offensive had left his forces badly depleted and the VC virtually nonexistent. The main reason we lost that war (quite bluntly) was that Uncle Walt Cronkite said, when Tet occurred, that the war had been lost - and who would doubt that Walt could be wrong? BTW, I was in USAFSS at the time. Also, on another post it was said that Backtrack is not another Churchill. Well, here in Colorado, we think he is - Ward Churchill, that is.

I just want to add a few comments to the discussion, since inthemajority seems to be the only one who has entered any comments directly applicable to the subject. 1) There used to be, during the 60's, 70's and early 80's in the range of 6000 reporting stations in the global temperature model. In the 80's, that dropped to approximately 1500. Most of those dropped were from colder environments (the Russians complained that many of their northern stations were dropped, for instance. There was never a study, so far as I can ascertain, that compared the two sets of stations over a period to generate a benchmark for the new array (common practice in science, accounting and other areas.)
