Newt, Sarah and a New GOP

For years a close friend of mine voted 3rd party in the pres. elections, and I would scold him that voting 3rd party was a waste of his vote. During the last election, I told him I was still against voting 3rd party, but I would sure like a 2nd party to vote for. We no longer have two parties; just two degrees of the same party.

I think it is a waste of time to try to "save" the Republican party. The reason is that they, just like the dems, have found that the best way to get votes is to buy them from the "poor" with the wealth of the "rich".

But, the politicians are only a part of the problem. They get elected because, whether we like to admit it or not, they are what the American public wants. They are more a...

Dismantling America

What I am wondering is this: when we Americans are "ordered" to do something which the Constitution does not give our fed gov't the RIGHT to order us to do, why do we do it? If, indeed, the gov't ordered the pay of executives cut, why did not those particular companies just tell the pres or his czar to go take a hike?

If the answer is that such folks might lose their jobs, companies, etc, then I ask, "When has freedom ever been free?" The founders of this nation - both the pols and the rank and file laid their fortunes and even their lives on the line to repel the power of government gone wild. Is it too little to ask us, the beneficiaries of their sacrifice, to stand up to the usurpers and suffer the...

Mike,

Glenda hit the nail on the head. I recommend, "Broken Minds: Hope for Healing When You Fell Like You're Loosing It," By Steve and Robyn Bloem. I recommended it to a pschologist friend of mine who is by no means one of that sort of psych that Mike mentions. He called the book, "A gift to the church." What is interesting is that the Puritans recognized these mood disorders as illnesses long ago. Martin Luther was prone to bouts of Depression. William Cowper (write of the hymn that begins "God Moves in a Mysterious Way...) suffered horribly from Anxiety and Depression, C.H. Spurgeon was prone to it, as well as A. Lincoln and Winston Churchill. The list could go on and on. BTW, the book, Lincoln's Melancholly" is also a...
Do I get some enjoyment out of watching ACORN squirm? Sure. Do I think the two young adults gutsy for what they did? yeah..and creative too. Do I think that is the business of the church? Not at all.

The Lord plainly said, "My kingdom is not of this world." Why then do so many professed Christians think that the ministry of the church is to "impact the culture." The greatest impact the church can have in this life and the next is to preach the pure, unadulterated gospel of the Lord Jesus. No one has ever been able to convince me from Scripture that the church has any other message to the world than to repent and believe the gospel. The reason the professed church has so little impact on the world is that it is just like...

Good reply, Scot. Especially toward the end. No need to waste our time and energy courting those who will never accept our proposal.

Magic Numbers in Politics: Part II

You: Dreams, dreams, dreams... life without government control - oh well, maybe... sometime... but it would take an enlightenment that this government cannot allow.

Me: The sad reality is, that, to my knowledge, no such transformation has ever occurred without blood. I am not calling for it, it's just an historical observation. There will come a time when the citizenry will bear it no more. However, with the lack of a good religious/moral underpinning, I fear any such revolution in our country now would result in something more like the French Revolution, rather than our first revolution.

But, I believe that every government goes from freedom to tyranny until there is a bloody revolt.

Capitalism accomplished what you want. When the price of housing goes up, you can bet the carpenters, etc notice and begin charging more. If the price of housing gets too high, people are unable to afford the housing and the property owners begin losing money through empty properties...then housing prices go back down to meet the demand.

It is only when gov't interferes with this system and ARTIFICIAL prices are injected that everything gets messed up. If rents are artificially low, property owners quit investing (they can't afford it) and rental properties become rat-infested sewers, and the poor have their rent-controlled property, but it is so wretched. most of us would not allow their dog to live in it.

Yes, Southern Ohio IS very beautiful since the beauty of the WV hills bleeds across the Ohio River into Ohio. I mean, we just had so much bauity, we couldn't fit it all in one state, so we let Ohio have some.

Actually, I have much to thank Ohio for: Have relatives there, got my first kiss there, went to college there, found my wife there, got married there...I've just never LIVED there.

A Joke Too Far

Joe T Wrote: Nov 22, 2009 6:48 AM
The Psalmist, in the office of a prophet, was writing about Judas Iscariot; and the prophecy came true.

The great evil of the joke in question is not that it is tasteless and mean, but that it is a blasphemy. The Scriptures are called "The Holy Scriptures" and as such are not to be put to common use. And this is as true whether it be a tasteless joke or a political slogan. A famous conservative talk radio host is always saying "Let not you heart be troubled." Those are words of the Lord Jesus Christ on the night He was betrayed, meant to comfort His disciples concerning the fears and anxieties they would face in the next few days. For a mere man to appropriate these words to promote his own career or even advance what we...
