Prior to the revolution, Russia, under the Czar was the most heavily armed nation on the planet. After WWI, German civilians posessed a lot of weapons. Step one of both Lenin and Hitler was to disarm the populace. The rest is history. With any legislation dealing with weapons, where is the line drawn. First you start with high capacity magazines, lower capacity magazines, then you can place any semi-automatic weapon in the same group because for the most part, most weapons can be considered clones of a military rifle. Pretty soon you are down to wheel guns and bolt action rifles. They would be next as in Britain.

By now, we’ve heard the argument about semi-automatic "assault" rifles: nobody needs one. We’ve heard the only reason why someone would obtain this kind of weapon is so they can kill people, which is far from the truth. We’ve also heard the argument from both the Left and the Right that a pistol is how someone protects their home.

"I really don’t know why people need assault weapons. I’m not a hunter but I understand people who want to hunt," Republican Rep. Peter King said on Morning Joe earlier this week. "I understand people who live in rough neighborhoods...
