Frederic Bastiat of the 1840s French Liberal School (liberal in the classic definition) addressed this best with his prescient and always funny parables. His best one was about the govt intervening in the economy by banishing windows in order to prevent candles makers from having their candles melt, thereby stimulating the economy.

This statement by Thomas Sowell in this article says it all: No statement is more unnecessary than the statement that the government should "do something" about some issue. Politicians are going to "do something," whether or not something needs to be done, and regardless of whether what they do makes matters better or worse.

This all goes back to the past heroes whose prescience led up to the Austrian School of Economics. It all boils down to govt stay the He-- out of the marketplace.
