This is extra-constitutional and should go directly to the supreme court. The Constitution specifically says "he shall sign". He is a personal pronoun refering to a living person. A machine has no legal authority to sign a law into effect.

President Obama signed the fiscal cliff deal via auto-pen late last night from Hawaii, because afterall, he couldn't just stay in Washington an extra day to do it in person.

In a statement, the White House said officials received the bill from Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon, Washington time.

"A copy was delivered to the President for review," the White House statement said. "He then directed the bill be signed by auto pen."

Now it's onto the next financial crisis, something that has become normal under President Obama's leadership.
