Add my name those who want Powell removed from the list. He was no soldier.

What the Washington Post Missed

Lets stick with the WAPO story. No one bleached their hair in the 60's, not even women. A guy who did would be lucky to be alive before he was thrown out of that school, which would forever have a stained reputation for admitting a homosexual. If there had been such a person, everyone in the school would have known about it, everyone, yet Romney's best friend doesn't. There would be far more than 4 who were aware of it. Lauber's family said the story is inaccurate. Hoevever, now that we know that WAPO can find old classmates, they should find some of Obama's and report on him. This story was written by someone under 30 who has no clue what 60's more's were, so it utterly fails to be believable.
The IRS is controlled by the Ways and Means Committee in the House. Does the name Charlie Rangel mean anything to you? That is where all tax laws start. The IRS simply writes the regulations that puts tax laws into effect. If you have a problem, blame Congress.
A fair tax won't eliminate the IRS. All that will happen is that a reduced variety of individual tax returns will be processed. All of the other IRS functions will still need to be performed. Amended returns. Injured Spouse. Identity Theft. Back taxes.
I worked for the IRS for several years. Every new tax processor inevitably commented about how taxpayers were being routinely shafted by tax preparers, CPA's excepted. Big companies and individual preparers were equally bad. Many were simply incompetent. The idea that something should be done to prevent such people from preying on people so easily was a routine one. Preparers were first warned about this at least 2 years ago. Unfortunately, the IRS has to process returns as signed, so taxpayers were shafted and preparers got off, even when we knew better. The bar for preparers is low. Go with this. It's a good thing if that is all there is to it. And be careful before you sign a return.

Saving Face by Slaying Owls

You got it when you mentioned the politics. Its about keeping the Spotted Owl alive so the loggers can be kept out. The rest is a distraction. You can tell because no environmental groups are screaming about the Barred Owl. Removal of the dams is a different issue, that of returning all streams under the Corps of Engineers to their natural flow status. That is why flood control was handled the way it was last year in the MidWest and in Louisiana and flooded so much land. It's a policy adopted by the President's Council on Environmental Quality, to return the land to its natural state before man showed up.

'Super Tuesday'

I used to agree with you regarding Gingrich, but I have given up on him. His continuing inability to put together an organization that would help him win the race means he can't compete on even terms. That is a losing proposition, so I have gone elsewhere and Santorum is the best bet. With almost no resources, he has beaten Romney, who drives people away better than Ron Paul does. Ever the diehard, I still want Sarah.
My wife and I just saw the movie. She was as transfixed as everyone else was. There was barely a move from the audience, no sounds at all until the credit's rolled. Take tissues or wear an absorbent, cotton shirt. A cap maybe, to shade your eyes might be helpful. It's the kind of movie that reminds you of why we all went to see John Wayne movies, so you could be proud of America. Veterans will see it as an authentic movie, mistake free, not hyped or exaggerated or full of false bravado. No drinking. No bar fights. Just good Americans. The others need to be able to see that same reality, not the made up one that we always get.
Obama admitted to his use of pot, alcohol and cocaine in one of this books, so it is an open subject and we should be able to talk about it. We should also be able to talk about his high school diploma and his transcripts from Columbia and Harvard, but we can't see those or talk about them for some reason. There should be no reason why the education of a public official is not provable, so why has Obama withheld them?
The feds can monitor all of the internet now. The communications companies, such as AT&T, are required to channel all of their traffic through government run 'tunnels' called Caela's(?) right now. Whether they are doing anything with the data is unknown, but its certainly possible and has been for several years.
