An Open Letter to Mark Potok, Spokesman for the SPLC (Part I)

In May 2010, Family Research Council co-founder and NARTH board member George Rekers was caught in the Miami airport as he returned from an ten day European vacation with the lithe young long-haired male prostitute he'd hired from Rentboy.com. Part of their sexual contract included a stipulation for "daily nude erotic massage." Over and over and over and over again the most virulently anti-gay Christian leaders get exposed as being secretly homosexual themselves. As my grandmother always said, "The guilty dog barks the loudest."

Joe, and what does this have to do with my article, focusing on the hypocrisy of the SPLC? Should I extract from this that their leaders are all closet-fundamentalist Christians? Or that you are? Again, as I wrote a few months ago -- and as linked in part two of the article, which will appear here shortly and is already online in full elsewhere -- I consider it a badge of honor to be on their list, but as I've done in the past, I'll again call them to account for their misrepresentations and errors.

I'm pointing out that the founder and leader of two organizations you cite as being victims of hypocrisy was exposed as a hypocrite of the highest hilarious order.

As I wrote last night, there are hypocrites everywhere. How about the name Larry Brinkin, a pioneer gay activist leader, honored with a week in his name in SF, then recently charged with being a pedophile and White Supremacist. What does that prove? (Shall we go name for name for a while?) And what does your point have to do with someone being on the ridiculously muddled SPLC hate-group list? Nothing at all, Joe.

If you consider being on their list a badge of honor Dr. Brown then why are you complaining?
Dr. Brown Wrote: Aug 22, 2012 11:19 PM
Gerald, you know the answer to that, since I addressed this on my FB page -- before we had to start deleting your comments that violated our guidelines. I am exposing their hypocrisy, as I done often before, and using their absurd treatment of me as an example. My position remains unchanged, which you would have known had you read the full article and checked the links (which also go back to this article: http://townhall.com/columnists/michaelbrown/2012/05/25/malik_zulu_shabbaz_david_duke_and_me)

My comments were no different than what they are here. They were no different than your letter to SPLC. You are trying to discredit me just like you do to all of those who challenge you.
Dr. Brown Wrote: Aug 22, 2012 11:41 PM
By posting a link to two hours I gave you on the air with me, I'm trying to discredit you? By asking a professing minister to abide by the guidelines we require for everyone on my FB page -- before we have to start deleting your comments for violations -- I'm discrediting you? That's why I'm praying for you, Gerald, and with that, I'll be getting back to other things that demand my time. May God grant you repentance and new life in His Son -- and a fresh revelation of the authority of the Word.
RevG Wrote: Aug 22, 2012 11:50 PM
Again, there was nothing different about my comments. I am not vulgar, nor do I attack simply to attack. I am tired of those who use the Word of God as club to beat down others and a mask to hide their intolerance and disdain for others. Again, word play.

And Dr. Brown, I gave you two hours of my time. :) I really thought that we would have a fruitful discussion on how we could impact the lgbt community in a positive way. That was not your goal.
Dr. Brown Wrote: Aug 23, 2012 7:25 PM
That was my goal, but you utterly reject the biblical message, which is the thing everyone -- including LGBT people -- need to hear the most.
RevG Wrote: Aug 23, 2012 10:50 PM
I reject your interpretation of that message. That one that ignores the cultural context.
Dear Mr. Potok,

Because your organization has not responded to my previous attempts to interact and because the SPLC is coming under increasing public scrutiny, I am writing this open letter with the hope that you will respond. You should be familiar with my name, since I am on your list of “30 New Activists Heading Up the Radical Right” and since I was profiled in the Spring 2012 Intelligence Report (more on that shortly).

My desire in writing to you is not to be contentious, nor is it to embarrass you. Rather, it...
