Even Reagan could not walk his talk. He should have built support to eliminate two large federal agencies with improper (constitutional) charters: Department of Energy and Department of Education. Unfortunately, he failed and the federal government continued to grow.
I'll double that ... ????? ?????
Yes. Eric Blair (aka George Orwell) was a socialist and socialist sympathizer, but was appalled by Stalin's activities in the USSR.
I am trying to determine the origin of the Department of Education (I don't believe it should exist at all). If this doesn't shock a person I don't know what will. This is from a Drexel University Web Page ... "The history of the Department of Education goes back to 1867, when President Andrew Jackson signed legislation that created the first Department of Education." (see: http://www.cis.drexel.edu/faculty/shelfer/public_html/busrefpapers/edu.htm ) Of course, Andrew Jackson was President between 1829 and 1837. He died in 1845. According to https://www2.ed.gov/about/overview/fed/role.html its original charter was "to collect information on schools and teaching that would help the States establish effective school systems. Roe v. Wade at 40

I wish more people took the time to read the Roe v. Wade case. It was a bad decision and should be reversed, but not for the reasons commonly claimed. The decision violated the 10th Amendment and illegally constructed a(n) (implied Constitutional) right to privacy. It has to be one of the strangest decisions in the Court's history.
The best things about Texas are: - Few production taxes and - The legislature is only in session 6 months every two years. "No man's life or property is safe while the legislature is in session".
The biggest contributors to Texas' state and local debt seems to be "education bonds" and "economic development". Citizens are zombie-like when government school boards request bonds to build, upgrade, or maintain (new) facilities "for the children". In my county, I have yet to see a bond fail in 30 years. The state education agency's interference with local boards has grown bureaucracy. Standardized testing is a disaster - students are being taught to "take tests" not master curriculum. Textbook content reflects surrender to a perceived ADD epidemic. No school choice has wastefully driven up spending with no positive effect. Government should not build athletic stadiums & racetracks for "economic development", but even Texans allow it.

At he risk of seeming blasphemous - what I heard Reagan say indicated he was a Libertarian. What I watched Reagan do indicated he was something of a Neo-Con.

I don't like Mariah Carey's singing or urban yodeling in general. I won't start a campaign to banish it if other people enjoy it. I don't enjoy marijuana, so I don't partake. Likewise, I won't start a campaign to banish it. It's not a publish health issue - I can't catch a high just because someone in my vicinity is high. When individuals infringe on the rights of others as a consequence of using marijuana (e.g., DUI), there are already laws to address this. So why the "war on drugs"?

I just wish people would learn to spell, and use proper grammar and diction so I can understand the thoughts they are trying to state. :-o
