I don't think the second paragraph follows from the first. I think people when answering the poll question meant that every person SHOULD have health care, sort of as an adjunct to the right to life, as in "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

While liberals might think so, i don't think conservatives and independents meant that this health care should be provided by the government. ...

the real Charles K, or stolen his word processor. But i suppose, after tongue lashing the Obama admin every day and night, he has to publish a squishy one like this every so often, to show that he is not a wholly owned subsidiary of the GOP.

A good article indeed. But there isn't a snowball's chance in Hell of eliminating Abortion--not with many Churches openly calling for "Universal Health Care for All"... along with a laundry list of other "Social-Justice" causes.

The Dear Father certainly means well in his -our- crusade. But it certainly sounds as though he supports Socialist Obamacare... minus the little "abortion funding" part."

1. Carlos, from a merely human viewpoint, it may look like there is no chance to completely eliminate abortion. The early abolitionists probably thought the same thing. But as the Archbishop said, we try anyway, because even if we...

Date: Mar 11, 2010 - 11:43 PM EST Science is much more important to
America than catholicism.

Science has brought us television and computers and electricity and cars and a rocket to the moon and cures for most (not all) common viruses and plagues of the past. Science has brought us evolution and a sun-centered universe and germ theory and the theory of relativity.

Catholicism has brought us the theory of transubstanciation, the purchase of indulgences to buy your way out of purgatory during the Renaissance and dictatorial, licentious, corrupt popes.

Stick with Science! Catholicism is the equivalent...
Archbishop Chaput is in my estimation one of the 2 brightest bishops among the US Catholic bishops, along with Cardinal Francis George of Chicago. But if anything, Chaput is better, because he has the most 'intestinal fortitude,' most willing to hammer the immoral in public. He is also an excellent writer.

You don't know the first thing about our Constitution. Constitution always trumps any law, fed or state. First amendment, freedom of speech, especially political speech. Don't like it? Amend the Constitution by deleting the First Amendment, or at least the Freedom of Speech Clause. Good luck.

You must belong to the 'but I FEEL that the Scotus should have voted the other way, for our evolving, living constitution--as long as it evolves in the direction of lefties.'

The Founders are turning over in their graves at the sight of the Imperial Presidency. Great deconstruction of that lunatic Woodrow Wilson. Supremes and Generals should not be at State of the Union. Best of all, George got a "kerfuffle" reference in.

Winds shifting on gay marriage

I'm all for traditional marriage, but i think this article way overstates the power of Carrie Prejean's declaration. I admire her courage, but outside CA, not all that many folks pay attention to beauty pageants, and hopefully? most minds are not changed one way or the other by such superficial Q and A sessions. Just because the drop in support for same sex marriage came after her speech, does not mean she caused the drop.

"Wonder why their memberships are dropping off a cliff.

I'd venture a great many who attend Church services do so because it makes them "Feel Good" about themselves (Read: feel superior to non-goers)."

Carlos, where do you get your figures? Actually, measured by baptisms (and of course [illegal]immigration from south of the border)Catholic membership in the US is up, just as it is with conservative Evangelicals, Baptists, Orthodox Jews, and Muslims.

Yes, attendance at Mass is down. Some will say that this is because of the sickening, criminal clergy sexual abuse scandal, but virtually anyone who tells...

said that we should or do hate homosexuals. What we are saying is that homosexual activity is unnatural because it is against both the Old and New Testaments. So called gay marriage is particularly abhorrent, because it attacks the foundational building block of society, family of mom, dad and kids. We already have a word for the love that 2 people of the same sex share: friendship. What those friends do in private, i could not care less. Christians, like Jesus, love the sinner but hate the sin.
