Obama Wins by Going Negative and Turning Out Base

There's really no political way to fix the problem. We got trounced not because of any "bad" candidate but because over decades we've allowed a population to grow intellectually lazy and ignorant of history and almost contemptuous of the work ethic and religion. This train was going to crash like this sooner or later and Obama was the perfect storm for it and he and the slanted school system will help seal this entitlement attitude in stone. Unless you can invigorate the masses with self-respect, civic pride and self-reliance, the only thing that will make them turn the slightest Conservative (of any stripe) is to dish them the same ice cream Dems have for generations. It's an evil quandary and uniquely too late.

You nailed Brother Jim, you nailed it. You should watch some of the YouTube videos of people who voted for President Obama in 2008. That lack of understanding, of our government and our history and the culture that made this country the greatest in less than 200 years, is astounding. It's also frightening because people like this with no values of their own can be far too easily swayed by a messianic personality. I wonder if people understand how evil people like Adolph Hitler came to power? I wonder if people understand that weakness begets war only strength begets peace. I fear we may have to learn both lessons again within my short remaining lifetime.
Lukewarm. That's the feeling I get from the election numbers.

Turnout was apparently down, at least as a percentage of eligible voters. The president was re-elected by a reduced margin. The challenger didn't inspire the turnout surge he needed.

Every re-elected president since Andrew Jackson has won with an increased popular vote percentage. Barack Obama didn't. He won 53 percent to 46 percent in 2008. His numbers as I write are 50 percent to 48 percent over Mitt Romney. That could go up to 51 percent to 48 percent when California finishes its count, which took five weeks in 2008.

Obama owes most...
