Has the nation gone irreversibly blue? Did intraparty disunity sabotage Mitt Romney's presidential quest? Or is there some other explanation for the nation's re-election of a president with the worst record in decades?
I received an email from a brilliant conservative friend who wonders whether Republicans can ever win another election and thus whether the nation is forever lost. I ran into a college student at church the Sunday before the election, and despite his strong conservatism and high intelligence, he admitted confusion about the candidates' respective positions after the presidential debates.

I am sick of hearing him whine about having only one third of one third of the government..
..the debt limit will rise immediately to $16.4 trillion, from the current ceiling of $15.2 trillion.
...Speaker John A. Boehner, boast that they have changed the conversation ... lawmakers focus on how to cut spending.
...Senator Tom Coburn, Republican of Oklahoma, complained that the Senate was allowing the debt limit to rise ...with little debate.

Harry Reid said ...that if the $16.394 trillion current legal limit on the federal government's debt must be raised in the next few months by another $2.4 trillion, “We’ll raise it." That would set the debt limit at $18.794 trillion.
...after only 15 months, ...that additional borrowing ..has been exhausted..Treasury quietly announced ...that it expects the federal government to hit its legal debt limit before the end of this year..
