I do agree that more needs to be done regarding how we treat mental illness. However, it seems in every one of these cases we hear about "moms" dealing with these issues. Where is Dad? I suspect that a lot of this rage these kids are exhibiting comes from that fact that they come from broken homes. Moms are working and Dads are missing .... in addition, we have no idea what kind of environment these moms have created in the home. Many children have rage issues when "mom" has different men coming and going ... which sometimes are abusive towards their children. The bottomline is these kids are not being raised by anyone. All these problems start in the home.

I think you may be on to something here. This kid was 20 years old, and may have seen himself as "The Man of the House" (if not a surragate husband to his mother). If she was entertaining male visitors in the home, he would probably consider it a betrayal, explaining why she was his first victim.

The title refers to 20-year-old Adam Lanza, now infamous for killing his mother, as well as 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., before fatally shooting himself. The writer obviously is not Lanza’s...
