The vary reason his is retiring, he is and always has been a DINO, not the true essence of a Democrat. This comes from a ND resident who has opposed Conrad since my return to the state in 1995 escaping the ever increasing mess in the People's "Repubic of California" to quote another columnist. Conrad is only Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, if you can call it that, because of his close ties to Ried over his 30 years in congress, it is not because of his ability to do numbers. ND finally saw the light, the political wind in ND have shifted regarding who should represent us in Congress, and it is "evolving". Both Dorgan, who decided to retire before the mid term elections in 2010, and Pomeroy who was defeated are gone.

“By the way, Harry Reid crushed the Democratic budget chairman, a good man, a fiscal hawk. And there are good, fiscal hawks – Kent Conrad – there are Democrats acting so responsibly.”

In Washington – a land of mythical accounting and empty rhetoric – such a claim seems perfectly reasonable. In the real world – outside of Washington political circles and the New York media circus – it is absurd.

By now, most Americans are well aware the Senate has not adopted a budget in more than 1,100 days. For families and businesses, budgets are not mere procedural mechanisms, but rather...
