What do you mean did Reagan take credit for the recession or not?
are republicans only able to inherit recessions?

Let’s look at the recessions in the past. How many came from a Democrat administration to Republicans. Kennedy had a slow down and he lowered taxes to fix it. Carter took over with the country in fair shape but left it in a mess. Clinton took over with bit of a slow down and also I believe lowered taxes to start the recovery. Obama took over from a recessions started by a democrat congress and hasn't fixed it yet.

The recession that Bush got, started in July of 2000, bottom out in 2001 and started recovery in 2002. The democrats tried to blame Bush but couldn’t get away with it because everything in 2001 was from the Clinton term.

Economy started to tank in 2007. The warning sign where there as far back as 2003 with what was going on with sally mae & Freddie mac. With the help of Maxine Waters, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank that bad home loans were encouraged to the down fall of the Banks and the start of today’s "Great Recession”. Congress was not allowed to investigate Sally & Freddie to put a stop to the bad loans, so we have what we got today. When the economy go bad in late 07 & 08 democratic congress introduce tarp and Bush sign it. It didn’t work so after Obama got elected the 2nd stimulates was introduce under a democratic congress. con't below

Its not that Obama or Bush started the problem but Obama polices for the last three years has not fixed the problem. Obama can only take credit or blame for not fixing the problem in a timely matter or making it worst.

President Barack Obama's re-election turns on his ability to convince voters that 1) Obama inherited a "Great Recession," 2) every "independent" economist supported the "stimulus," 3) "bipartisan" economists agree that Obama's stimulus worked, and 4) as actor Morgan Freeman puts it, racist Republicans say, "Screw the country ... we're going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here" -- nothing to do with deeply held policy differences.

That's a lot of merchandise to push.

1) Take this "Great Recession" business.

Remember the "misery index"? The term, popularized by former President Jimmy Carter, used to mean inflation plus...
