I disagree I think many in the News media have no understanding, but many do understand and blatantly lie, for the greater good, I suppose.

"When I feel the encroachment of the all consuming cold bureaucratic juggernaut I'm frightened. I think of cold cruel indifferent futures written about in books like "Anthem" or "1984" and others, where any deviation from the is quickly and viciously crushed." Should be: "When I feel the encroachment of the all consuming bureaucratic juggernaut I'm frightened. I think of cold, indifferent futures written about in books like "Anthem", "1984" and many others, where any deviation from the norm is quickly and viciously crushed." I got ahead of myself, and didn't proof it again, and I use too many adjectives. My writing ticks me off.

This is what frightens me most of all. When I feel the encroachment of the all consuming cold bureaucratic juggernaut I'm frightened. I think of cold cruel indifferent futures written about in books like "Anthem" or "1984" and others, where any deviation from the is quickly and viciously crushed. Once ensnared in the heaven on earth you can never get free, or at least not without great trauma. The thought, if I accept this all my burdens will be lifted, scares me. Lastly I think of the relationship between the Morlocks and the Eloi written about in the story "The Time Machine" and what do these friendly folks who want to give me all these things want from me, and what do they really think of me.

Most conservatives don't agree with you at all. The war isn't the problem, and I'm not a fan of Bush's, not because of the war but because he facilitated the election of a man like Obama. The subject of the column is the lie of Social Security.

Apparently Khrushchev's bold statement about defeating America without firing a shot was accurate, because if President Obama isn't a mole he's damn close, his disdain for his country, the culture and most of the people is palpable, and we elected him, with the help of the MSM, NEA, traitorous politicians, and the bastions of higher learning, another words thanks to ignorance. Dr Williams thanks for a great column again, unfortunately I think you're "preaching to the choir", but please don't stop because I need to read it for reaffirmation, and I think others do also, and maybe or hopefully some outside the "choir" will get around to reading pieces like this.

I am very amused when I hear the very wealthy supporting this redistribution environment, when their money for the most part is locked away and protected. That's not to say there is no philanthropy, there is even from the wealthy - smile -, but I think it's human nature to want to help others on one's own terms, not some third parties. And yes some people are more generous than others, there's nothing that can be done about that, and I wouldn't have it any other way. However I'm willing to bet that the left the real hard left isn't generous at all, unless there's some hidden agenda but that's not the same thing is it.

The 'Education' Mantra

I think Dr Sowell was talking about "Real" education, not the perception of education. The left may say this as often as they want but perception isn't reality, and eventually the rubber will meet the road, and that's just applied classical physics. Also I think the shift you're talking about was started long before the 70's.
