Can Mitt Break the Veep Curse?

Mr. Medved seems to forget one thing. The liberal media will always find something to attack no matter who is chosen. I like Colonel West myself, but if Jesus were available, they'd still find something. The idea of an early announcement is good, though. Get all the trashing out of the way before then and it will likely be a lot easier afterwards when the majority of those who only pay attention in the month before the election are tuning in.
Editors' note: a version of this column originally appeared at the Daily Beast.

As Mitt Romney ponders the most fateful decision of his presidential campaign, he must move decisively to break a dysfunctional habit that’s afflicted his party for a half century. Since the end of the Eisenhower era, Republican presidential candidates have compiled a far more troubled record than their Democratic counterparts when it comes to selecting effective running mates. To overcome that pattern, the Romney team should review the most successful and most embarrassing vice-presidential nominees in recent political history.

Any list of clumsy, ill-advised GOP selections...
