As those adults who lived as they were responsible for their actions and felt a duty to support themselves left the cities to those who did not and went to the suburbs, so will the same population start leaving the USA.

But to where, Spain, Greece, Iran, Switzerland, Mexico? The US is the large domino in the world. The US has a total collapse it will affect everywhere. China will be worrying about taking care of their own country and not into "collecting" on the debt owed. The Middle East relies heavily on outside sources for everything, and when their water desalinization plants stop, give them seven days as countries. Those places with an agricultural basis, and areas that have good weather, maybe a little hot in summer and a little cold in winter, will survive. There will be a huge decrease in population around the world!

A reader from New York has a follow-up question for me.

Referencing a “Question of the Week” from last month, in which I expressed guarded optimism that America could be saved, she wants to know what I would do if things go the wrong way.

In other words, what if things go really wrong and America suffers a Greek-style fiscal collapse? And imagine how bad that might be since there wouldn’t be an IMF or European Central Bank capable of providing bailouts to the United States.
