DR Horton is making money off first time buyers, but they build a crappy product by everybody's standards. If you want to buy a builder buy somebody like Lennar - they actually care about what they build and it will still be there in 30 years. Horton just slaps the stuff together and trusts that their uninformed buyer wont recognize the difference. If you don't believe me, go walk one of their homes during construction.
