The more religious a nation is, the less freedom it has in social issues. This isn't even a question for debate. What is freer, Saudi Arabia or Sweden? Iran or the Netherlands? Which nations will is it much harder to be a gay man in? Which nations can have you sent to prison? WHich nations will mandate women cover up? Which nations will ban what adults can read or view? Which nations will control contraceptives? Do I need to go on?

My God, are you stupid! There is no way you can compare Islam with any other religion. Islam is so radical and actually a murderous society. Their leader was a war monger and child molester.American had more freedom when it was a religious society. You must be very young!

False comparison -- islam is not a religion, it is a political system like socialism, communism, marxism , etc. that requires you to adhere or be punished. Religion does not restrict your freedom of choice, you can accept the beliefs or walk away, it is your individual right to decide.

Islam is a religion, every bit as much as Judaism or Christianity. It's an ugly religion, but it's still a religion. And yes, the "good" religions have a lot to answer for as well. Go suck on some sausage.

Go do something you probably haven't done in ages, Magnetar: Read a serious book.

The kind of limited government, democratic republic America has always been is possible for only two reasons: (1) The government isn't the sole (or even major) source of economic and social support for its citizens; and (2) Principles, ethics and incentives other than the simple fear of punishment has been effective in deterring anti-social behavior.

That's why it's so disconcerting to learn that two big factors in President Obama's re-election was his electoral dominance among both unmarried Americans (at an all time high) and the religiously unaffiliated (also growing ever larger).

The statistics about single voters are discouraging because...
