I believe that we need to see clearly that the real problem was never that so many people could not *afford* health insurance or weren't covered by already existing programs, but rather that a large group of people had other priorities for spending their money, which did not include health insurance. Not that they didn't have enough money, but that they chose to spend it elsewhere. My aunt can shop at Tiffany's for her 12 year old daughter and at the same time insist that health insurance should be free because she cannot afford it; I choose to shop at outlets and Goodwill and take responsibility for the health insurance needs of our family by paying for it ourselves instead of insisting or expecting the government do it.
