Sandra Fluke: Opposing the Contraception Mandate Is Just Like Opposing Leukemia Coverage

This debate is nonsense. Forget about this idiot Fluke for a moment. Contraceptives are among the cheapest drugs available. The problem is you need a $15,000 per year insurance policy and a copay to to go to a doctor for a prescription. All of this for a medicine that is $20 to $30 full price per month. This is insanity considering the morning after pill is over the counter. If the government was really interesting in making contraceptives affordable they would declare them over the counter. After all, the active compound in all birth control medicine is the same thing, .035 mg of ethinyl estradiol. But no. It is about making your hard earned money flow to the coffers of the health care industry who funds political campaigns.

Almost everywhere there is Planned Parenthood, there is free to very low cost medical care to provide the needed (and dreaded) doctor prescription for BCP.

Look at the contraindications and the possible side effects of BCPs. Know also that a woman should not take them for more than 5years and should take the least dosage possible to hold off the heart attacks, blood clots, etc. If we were to require all women to take them you'd really hear an uproar of woman claiming we are trying to kill them with the poison called Birth Control Pills.

No, you need to pay for one office visit at a clinic to get a prescxription...I don't necessairyl disagree that the pill could be OTC

On MSNBC this afternoon, Sandra Fluke truly outdid herself, attempting to argue that the people who disagree with the contraception mandate on religious freedom grounds are in the same category as people who oppose insurance coverage for leukemia. Just...watch:

What's important to note is that some of the folks who are continuing to object to this policy are actually worried about employers who are private companies, not religiously affiliated employers in any way, but the boss has a particular religious concern, and they want to be able to deny...
