As a Rowing Coach, my weekday ideal distance was 15-18 kilometers, and on the weekend 25 kilometers. The fellas didn't have too much time sitting before the next moving along to the next item of practice time. I figured that they regularly burned in practice 2500 to 3000 calories, between water time and dry land running. I had sports nutritionists speak to them, I spoke to parents advising about proper nutrition. They needed food, a balanced diet, and when not training studying and having fun. My rowing crews won many major races, and many of the young men improved on scholastics. The last thing athletic students needs is a meddling politican putting her two bits into something she has no right dipping into.

In Wisconsin, high school athletes are complaining about not getting enough to eat each day, due to the skimpy new school lunch menu mandated by the United States Department of Agriculture and First Lady Michelle Obama.

The story we published earlier this week on that subject is unfortunately not unique. Students across the country are complaining about the new school lunch regulations.

Perhaps the real motive is to starve students into slimming down. Just ask students in Pierre, South Dakota who, too, are in an all-out revolt.
