Dr. Sowell is a brillant man, but he is wrong to say that it is easy to refute Obama's claim that lower tax rates lower revenues and increase deficits. I agree with him that Obama is lying, but it is not easy to refute with the current education level of our society. The good Dr. refers to two charts and the NY Times to "easily" refute Obama's claim. Like my kids would say, "really, you want people to read charts from thick volumns of economic reports and an article from the NY Times." My kids would do it, but extremely few of their peers in there 20's and 30's would do it, and even if they did they would not comprehend the subject matter. It is the under 40 crowd and metro minorities that elected Obama this time. (cont)

Jeff,

I think Dr. Sowell meant "easy" in the rhetorical sense that any clear THINKING individual could glean the implications. Sadly, you're points are also (somewhat) correct in that a large number of Americans, and especially the younger generation, can't be bothered with careful analysis of facts. If it can't be distilled into a tweet or text message (OMG O is GR8! LOL), then it goes right over their heads.

But hey, if your kids can get it, I'm sure there are other younger people out there who still take the time to actually study issues and absorb real facts.

Obama knows that they don't read reports, and if they read at all, it is their texts and facebook pages only. In my line of work, I see these people on an every day basis and have to talk to them. Even simple common expressions that I grew up with totally escape them. There is an ever decreasing number that read actual books. Even a lesser number actually have any critical thinking skills, let alone the ability to look at data and make an objective evaluation. The Libs have destroyed education with the purpose of feeding our kids politically correct nonsense. So sorry Dr., Ross Perrot got on TV with charts in 1992 and tens of millions watched, no way today he even gets on national TV no matter how much he pays.

Our children are being indoctrinated in schools to be little socialists.

Editor's Note: This column is part II in a series. Part I can be found here.

One of the big advantages that President Obama has, as he plays "chicken" with the Congressional Republicans along the "fiscal cliff," is that Obama is a master of the plausible lie, which will never be exposed by the mainstream media-- nor, apparently, by the Republicans.

A key lie that has been repeated over and over, largely unanswered, is that President Bush's "tax cuts for the rich" cost the government so much lost tax revenue that this added to the budget deficit-- so...
