DHS: Semi-Automatic Handguns Weapon of Choice in Mass Shootings

jeanhart Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:06 PM
The AR-15 style rifle — the most popular rifle in America, according to gun dealers — was also the weapon of choice for Adam Lanza, who the police said used one made by Bushmaster on Friday to kill 20 young children and six adults in a massacre that has horrified the nation.

So? It has saved more. Should we ban swimming pools? They are the number one killers of children.
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:44 PM
If the AR15 is the most popular rifle in America, how come it's used in less than 1% of all violent crimes where a gun is used? Shouldn't it be in the upper 50% category? You are full of hot air jeanhart. You spew about things you have no clue about, with respect to reality. You're scared of how an AR15 looks. That's about the size of it. The AR15 is not being used to kill thousands of people out there. The criminals use handguns for the most part. A chief of police in New Jersey remarked that his officers were much more likely to encounter a lion escaped from the local zoo than a criminal armed with an "assault weapon".

The AR-15 rifle is Constitutionally protected from nazis like you.

He could have used a sawed off shotgun and handguns just as well. The fact that he took a rifle which his mom had "legally" purchased doesn't mean that the rest of us law abiding gun owners cannot be trusted with an AR15. I served 4 years in our military with a top secret clearance, working on nuclear weapons systems. I have never committed a crime. I have one traffic violation from when I was 18 years old, plus two parking tickets, one of which I fought and had nullified. I have 5 lovely children and a great wife, whom I've always been faithful to. I work hard, pay taxes, and play by the rules. Why don't you trust me to own a semi automatic rifle just because it has a pistol grip, jeanhart? Please give me just 1 valid reason why!
jeanhart Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:27 PM
Well - aren't you lucky to have five healthy children. Twenty families in Newtown do not. Is your desire to own an AR 15 more important than the lives of 20 children?

Give me 1 valid reason why you need to own one
BabyChe'sCrushedSkull Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:29 PM
To protect himself from vermin.

You realize that the mother tried to get her son admitted into a mental facility because of the problems she saw. Unfortunately, she was not allowed. You can thank the ACLU for that.
troutbum5 Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:30 PM
Because pistol grips, along with "barrel shrouds" (My M1 Garand and '03 Springfield have barrel shrouds too, come to think of it, as do just about every other military issue rifle since the Civil War, they're just made out of wood instead of that evil black plastic) look scary, and can be used to "spray fire from the hip". Anyone ever try to fire an AR from the hip? Or a shotgun with a pistol grip? Not very comfortable or practical. Or accurate. Not that accuracy is critical with a shotgun.
jeanhart Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:34 PM
Not true. She had just started looking into programs - when her son found out and killed her before she had a chance to do anything
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:36 PM
I am very lucky to have 5 healthy children. I don't need a valid reason to own an AR15. My owning an AR15 had no impact on Newtown, absolutely none. I was thousands of miles away. You tell me why I should not be trusted to own a semi automatic rifle with a pistol grip. When you are talking about taking away someones rights, the government needs to have a very compelling reason to do so. I don't need a reason to exercise my rights. So your demand is totally invalid. Now answer mine or buzz off.
jeanhart Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:39 PM
I did answer you - and you just proved how selfish and inhumane you really are. If the deaths of 20 children does not make you stop and think - nothing will. Just as long as it is not your children right? Could not care less about somebody else's child
jeanhart Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:43 PM
And yet you claim to be pro life. Go figure
Simplecaveman Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:44 PM
She was trying to get him committed, but ran into difficulties getting it done. Also, the Connecticut legislation voted down a measure that would have allowed the state to commit someone if there was a reason to think that would prevent them from harming others.
BabyChe'sCrushedSkull Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:48 PM
The deaths of 20 children is indeed tragic, however, using the tragedy to push for meaningless legislation which will do nothing to prevent similar massacres (See: Massacre, Columbine)., is pointless, and in fact, obscene.

Jay Wye Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:48 PM
We don't NEED any reason to own one.
the Second Amendment of the Constitution is NOT ABOUT hunting or sporting.
semi-auto,magazine-fed rifles such as the AR-15 and AK-47 are today's modern MILITIA weapons, and thus should be the most protected of firearms under the Second Amendment.

Militiamen were expected to appear for muster bearing arms and ammo similar to and compatible with what the Regular military had in use AT THAT TIME.
Since we "compromised" and restricted ownership of full-auto,true assault rifles, that leaves the semi-auto versions for civilian militia use.
Jay Wye Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:49 PM
During the LA riots of 1992,the police REFUSED to enter the riot zone to protect citizens, and Korean shopkeepers used "assault weapons" to hold off the rioting mob that came to burn them and their families alive in their shops/homes. that's just ONE good reason, not that we need ANY reason to own them.
it also is justification for 30 round magazines, you need firepower to hold off a riot mob.
Not that we need any justification.
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:53 PM
I told you. My owning an AR15 has absolutely nothing to do with what happened at Newtown, or Aurora, or Vietnam, or to Gabby Giffords. The fact that you try to tie my ownership of any firearm to any of those events shows that your brain does not work, logically. I'm not selfish. How could I be with 5 kids? I'm not inhumane. The deaths of those 20 kids and 6 adults made me think. It made me think how stupid that woman was to not better secure her guns. It made me think that she should have gotten him help a lot sooner. It made me think that liberals with Gun Free Zones are more responsible for those deaths than anyone who legally owns an AR15 for lawful purposes is.
Simplecaveman Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:53 PM
It makes me think. For instance, if state hospital facilities were available, maybe yahoos like Lanza, Ted Kaczynski, and Jared Loughner would be out of harm's way, hopefully getting treatment to quell their homicidal urges. But no, liberals fear that people like this would become stigmatized by being labeled a psycho. So, because of liberal actions, again, children were needlessly murdered. I care a lot about lives being lost, but what really infuriates me is that liberals "think" they know what is right for the rest of America, when, in fact, they see an opportunity to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens. They are absolutely pathetic.
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:55 PM
I am pro life. I would not condone the taking of another human life with the exception of self defense and/or war. I didn't say it was OK for those kids to die. You're looney tunes, lady.
Curtis108 Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:56 PM
Give me one valid reason why, as a law abiding citizen of the US, I should be deprived of one.
Curtis108 Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:58 PM
If I and an AR-15 had been at Sandy Hook when the shooter showed up, you may rest assured that the loss of innocent life would have been much lower. By your prohibitionist tendencies in creating gun free zones, you are more responsible for the death toll than I am.

Meanwhile, how many unborn were aborted today?
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 6:28 PM
That doesn't matter to progressives. They don't agree that babies still in the womb have any right to life. If someone wants to snuff that life out, that's just fine with progressives. It doesn't even matter to most progressives how long the baby has been in the womb. Obama was perfectly fine with letting any baby who happened to survive an abortion, lay in a garbage can and expire.

A November 2012 Mass Shootings Analysis report issued by the New Jersey Intelligence & Analysis Unit (NJ ROIC) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shows semiautomatic handguns are the most common weapons used to carry out mass shootings. The report was issued one month before the Newtown shooting in which, according to the coroner and police, the killer used a semi-automatic rifle.

"The mass killing incidents this year at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin and a movie theater in Colorado garnered international attention and focused the efforts of public and private sector security officials on...
