Robbers should be put to work to earn money to pay back what they have stolen rather than go to prison to learn how to do a better job! Obviously, automatically locking up non-violent offenders does no good for anyone.

From the Atlantic Monthly - "But a long list of legal experts have, in fact, come forward to say that the case against Troy Davis is far too thin to support the death penalty. The list includes about 1,500 names, ranging from Andrew Cohen to former state Supreme Court justices to author and capital punishment expert Scott Turow. All of these authorities are in agreement that there is simply not enough there to justify killing a man. " I do not understand why so many commenters here are so quick to want another man's death. When Jesus said we have visited Him when we visit those in prison - he made no exceptions based on the crime committed.

34 witnesses for the state? I smell a rat - there were 34 people in that small area that saw everything that happened? Hmm....

No one is saying that unrepentant, unchanged murderers should be released! Many who are repentant and changed are released to live lives that are a help to others. Many work in the prisons helping other prisoners to change.

Not a word has been said about the families of the executed. Not all who are executed for murder, though they may be guilty, are terribly mean people whom no one loves. The executed could be your father, brother, best friend – or even you! The Christian hope for all man is that he come to the knowledge of God in His mercy – not to obtain revenge in the name of 'justice'. The woman taken in adultery was guilty of a capital crime and Jesus changed her life rather than condemn her and cast her out. Jesus admonished us to pray for those who despitefully use us, and as the state was executing Him, He prayed God forgive His killers.

Why on earth would they let someone with that background out on a weekend furlough? Charles Manson hasn't killed anyone else and they did not have to put him to death. A liberal could argue that he should have been aborted - think of all the taxpayer dollars he has cost us all his life in those, was is it 17, foster care homes he was assigned to by a bureaucracy, where his view of life was formed, and skewed so badly.

An interesting anecdote is that McVeigh wanted to be put to death - rather than spend life in prison - - - with his conscience.

The woman taken in adultery was guilty of a capital offense. And how did Jesus treat her? When Jesus told us that when we visit people in prison, we are visiting Him. He did not specify what particular crimes were committed by those we are to visit in prison.

In Canada the murder rate went down when capital punishment was abolished.
