I do not share the author's love for Lincoln. Washington's odd admiration for him makes me nervous. Ken gives us some great historical background on secs of state, but he misses the big reasons why Kerry is a terrible choice for any public office. His disgraceful beratement of Felix Rodriguez in 1987 and his gushy praise for North Vietnam when they started letting some of our people in to look for MIAs.

That whole scene of throwing away "his" medals that turned out to be other people's medals was absolutely outrageous. Simply outrageous.

The editorial staff of the Washington Post, surely meant well. They wanted readers to think that Sen. John Kerry’s vast experience in foreign policy over four decades equips him to serve as Secretary of State in the second Obama administration.

The editorial, titled “John Kerry: Well-suited to be Secretary of State,” gets that part right. The natty Mr. Kerry certainly looks the part of a globe-trotting senior U.S. diplomat.
