Obama Has It Right on Birth Control

What is it about "the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution" that Marsden fails to understand? Governments should not be paying for or requiring others to pay for the health care or health insurance of Marsden or anyone else. Let us buy in the marketplace and keep our freedom.
"From surpluses, like forever, to deficits forever." I assume that this is a joke. A simple place to start is http://www.kowaldesign.com/budget/

Ideals Versus Realities

Kenneth L. you are missing a number of things. What is your income? Is your budget balanced? What proportion of your budget goes to paying off debt? Let's suppose it is balanced (i.e., income = outflow). Let's also suppose that 40% of your "income" is borrowed. Now add $12,000 additional debt and you must pay it off in a year. Your "budget" is not $2000 dollars a month, it is still $1,000 dollars a month but you have liabilities that stack up to $2,000 a month. You are running a deficit of $1,000 a month and you are in big trouble. But there is a way out. Get your creditors to raise your credit card limit, borrow $1,000 dollars a month from Mr. Hu down the street and demand more money from your boss, Ms. J. Q. Public.

Making Americans Sick

Dr. Williams: It is clear that government stands ready to spend our money to correct the many problems it helped create. Now to a small point that I presume some earlier respondents made. The sugar we buy at the grocery is sucrose. It's a more complex sugar (more carbon atoms) than fructose and glucose.

Citizenship Should Remain a Birthright

Chapman's thinking is focused too narrowly on Mexican and Latin American aliens. Although the numbers are not "large," it is well-known that pregnant women in Seoul, Korea book flights to LA in order to give birth to American citizens. More to the point, I suppose Chapman supports guest worker programs as well. How do we get these "temporary" workers out of the country when their children are American citizens? Germany has had a hell of a time with Turkish guest workers and their children had great difficulty becoming German citizens until reforms were passed in 2000.

Go Quietly, Michael Steele

My voice is limited on this issue. I am a conservative but have never registered as a Republican. In that sense, the RNC should not necessarily pay any attention to what I have to say. But I have contributed money to the RNC and to Republican candidates---including Steele in his failed run for the Senate.

Steele has become an embarrassment to his party and his "they're picking on me because I am black" is the kind of sorry excuse I have come to expect from our President's supporters and other Democrats.

I will write to Mr. Steele to ask him politely to resign. I will also inform him that there is at least one black conservative who wants him to leave the stage quietly because he is impeding our efforts to stop the...

All the President's Mendacity

I am a geezer who graduated from high school in 1959. That's back when a high school diploma meant one had aquired---well---a high-school education. And way back then I learned that a person who was mendacious was (dare I say it) a liar. I guess Representative Wilson was not off base after all.

Would Obama Really Kill Granny?

Bravo Mr. Blackwell. I simply repost what I sent as a comment on the Newsweek site:

Evan Thomas makes the case for killing granny. And it rests on the bottom line. No one is safe from the bottom line. Not my healthy ten-month old granddaughter who was born prematurely. Nor is the child born with Down syndrome. Nor was my cousin who languished in an "irreversible" coma that miraculously reversed and gave him 20 more years of life.

We can toss granny, comatose patients and others on the bottom-line pyre and deal with our collective consciences. Or we can kill her by default and absolve ourselves of blame. Let government panels decide which treatments are "acceptable" and when and who should get them.

I and many of my...
